Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, at least in the eyes of America, into the class of child prodigies. A child of Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family, this came naturally. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita Lea. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and also owned part of the famous Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons placed 2nd in the household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen was an athletic natural and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. Her passion was coupled with the natural ability to perform. As a result, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her country of birth. At age fourteen, she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
